Two-fer Tuesday: Shannon McNally and K.T. Tunstall

Some songs just begged to be shared. And shared they must be!

K.T. Tunstall "Black Silk Ribbon" - it's beautiful and haunting.

Shannon McNally enchanted me with her performance of "Now That I Know" on Late World With Zach (Galifianakis). Watching her sing it for me and the audience, it was sweet and powerful and struck home. Years later, I discover it was written by the amazing Eric Bazilian (songwriter for The Hooters, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, Zucchero, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, The Scorpions(! yes, just keep wrapping your head around that one), LeAnne Rimes, Jonatha Brooke, Ronnie Spector, and the list goes on. I should have known the sweet, elemental thread that pulls one through this song was his...that's what he does best and why he writes for so many people and why I was enchanted.

Back to KT Tunstall as she takes on Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue".

Shannon goes after Taj Mahal's "Lovin' in My Baby's Eyes" and does a fine job of it.

Of the 2 I prefered Shannon McNally. If you have yet to do so, check out Cindy Alexander www.cindyalexander.com who I am crazy about. The first Shannon video reminded me a bit of her. Cindy's website has several songs that will start playing whwen you access her website.

I love Shannon, but there's something in that Tunstall song that I like...the dark element of surprise violence sung so matter-of-factly. It's from the second 7 Worlds Collide project headed by Neil Finn. Hmm, you might find a few interesting bits from both of those collections...

I like Cindy, too. I remember you mentioning her back on the JB forum and checking her out.

These days, it's just a joy for me to hear lovely female voices that aren't straining to be like anyone else, you know? Kirsten Thien, who I've just interviewed, has such a voice. As does Karen Lovely. Lisa Mann. Duffy Bishop. Etc, etc. Believe it or not, this post was actually supposed to feature Lisa, Karen, and Duffy, but I got sidetracked. Next week...and maybe I'll find some Cindy Alexander to go along with them.
